The Staves

This past weekend I went and saw the Civil Wars at HOB. The duo live were so brilliant and sinfully good that of course they had to choose an opening band with the same caliber.... The Staves. The only info I was able to gather about them was that they are sisters from the outskirts of London who create the most melodic sounds I have heard in a while... maybe the girl version of FleetFoxes (vocal wise). Anywho, please check out their EP called Mexico...and fall in love.

 Laura Morsman/ Friebele is a dear friend of mine that has a butt- load of talent that I thought the world should be aware of. She is a self taught photographer originally from the Kansas City area but has since migrated south to live with her beau Michael and two    dogs Blithe and Milo. If you are in the Dallas area or not and are needing some seriously great photos check her out but if not still check her out... she is a diamond in the rough. Here is a little interview we had the other day...

What first got you interested in photography?

I have to admit it spawned from the beginnings of the "Myspace" self portrait days of the early 2000's. I have never 
followed photographers works, kept up with any inspiring
photo blogs... I just took my point and shoot one day and decided pointing it in another direction than at myself would be a good idea.. 

         How would you describe your style of photography? 


Modern is the word being used these days.. but I would say mine has a twinge of a dark theme once you dig past the kids photos. I love to make things look like they jumped out of a Tim Burton movie when I can creatively get away with it... 


       When was the first time you knew you could do this as a career? 


When I was 16 I got asked to do my first wedding shoot, and at that time I got really nervous naming prices, doubting my worth in the beginning. I got up the nerve to name a price, and she happily obliged.. I realized, wow, this could be okay! 


   Between working at Anthropologie and shooting what else do you enjoy doing?


Spending time with my husband Mike. I am the hermit and he is the social bee.. I love to do collage work on canvas, sew clothing, and honestly I love to network online with my photography and other creative venues. Oh yes, I love to work out as well  


                          film or digital? 


Amongst other photographers (especially seasoned ones) you are asked this a lot.. My answer is that I respect film incredibly, it is the art of photography, digital is the convenience side of it. For my job, digital is wanted and necessary for the time restraint and demand of photos.

Set on an island off the coast of England in 1965 two 12 year olds fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together. The trailer looks beautiful and full of sly humor; just as Wes would have it. I think it comes out in May sometime, and when it does I'll be there.

He has been writing his own music for 10 years and considers himself a wandering man. His music has just that tone; a wandering folk Americana feel that's hard to get out of your head. These guys are coming to Dallas in Feb. and I just bought tickets to see them... again. I'm super excited because they always put on a great show. Earlier this year they opened for Taylor Swift, but this time around Ben Rector is opening for them. Check out some of their videos; they will make your heart feel free and your legs want to climb a mountain in search for an adventure...
