Ron van der Ende

Ron van der Ende work is sick. He is a once trained painter turned sculptor artist who uses found wood to create super realistic bas-reliefs centered around everyday life objects. He employees the original color and texture of the wood to help instill in his viewers mindset the environmental problem we have created within our world. I think his work is very relevant to our day-in-time in a world where we easily forget to embrace the old because were so worried about obtaining the new. Norman Parkinson- in colour

Norman Parkinson was a world renowned fashion photographer who had the incredible opportunity to work with some of the worlds most beautiful women of the time, top fashion magazines, and even royalty. I got to looking at his work and I noticed that in his color photography he tended to gravitate to the warmer and cooler shades of the spectrum. If you love breathtaking photos go check out the rest of his work, but remember to breathe.

Laura Morsman Photography

 Laura Morsman/ Friebele is a dear friend of mine that has a butt- load of talent that I thought the world should be aware of. She is a self taught photographer originally from the Kansas City area but has since migrated south to live with her beau Michael and two    dogs Blithe and Milo. If you are in the Dallas area or not and are needing some seriously great photos check her out but if not still check her out... she is a diamond in the rough. Here is a little interview we had the other day...

What first got you interested in photography?

I have to admit it spawned from the beginnings of the "Myspace" self portrait days of the early 2000's. I have never 
followed photographers works, kept up with any inspiring
photo blogs... I just took my point and shoot one day and decided pointing it in another direction than at myself would be a good idea.. 

         How would you describe your style of photography? 


Modern is the word being used these days.. but I would say mine has a twinge of a dark theme once you dig past the kids photos. I love to make things look like they jumped out of a Tim Burton movie when I can creatively get away with it... 


       When was the first time you knew you could do this as a career? 


When I was 16 I got asked to do my first wedding shoot, and at that time I got really nervous naming prices, doubting my worth in the beginning. I got up the nerve to name a price, and she happily obliged.. I realized, wow, this could be okay! 


   Between working at Anthropologie and shooting what else do you enjoy doing?


Spending time with my husband Mike. I am the hermit and he is the social bee.. I love to do collage work on canvas, sew clothing, and honestly I love to network online with my photography and other creative venues. Oh yes, I love to work out as well  


                          film or digital? 


Amongst other photographers (especially seasoned ones) you are asked this a lot.. My answer is that I respect film incredibly, it is the art of photography, digital is the convenience side of it. For my job, digital is wanted and necessary for the time restraint and demand of photos.

I credit this post to my sister who has a good ear for new music and artists. David Ramirez is a true American man. He has been writing his own music for 10 years and considers himself a wandering man. His music has just that tone; a wandering folk Americana feel that's hard to get out of your head. Earlier this year they opened for Taylor Swift, but this time around Ben Rector is opening for them. Christoph Niemann- Illustrator

I found these pictures on the Selby taken of Illustrator Christoph Niemann and his wife Lisa Zeitz house in Berlin. There were tons more photos but the ones that struck me were the pictures of the loo. This (to moi) is such a genius idea for a bathroom; the randomness in the color tile and the pattern in which it was laid is so much fun it reminds you to not take life to seriously.

Elvis still has it. If you are an Elvis fan I am sure you have watched this movie but for those who haven't seen any of his movies make sure you Netflix this one. "Girl Happy" was made in 1965 and centered around Elvis's good looks and musical charm. Check out these clips from the movie and see if Elvis can't swoon you to a little Wolf Call.

Today at work, one of the sales associates heard me humming a tune as I was re-working a table display and he asked me what I was humming. I told him it was a Civil War song and he busted out with  a laugh sure to awaken Dallas. I told him it wasn't a song from the Civil War but that it's a band and he thought that was even funnier. I didn't understand why there was a second laugh but I guess he thought it was funny. 

My sister (once again) introduced me to The Civil Wars which is a duo band partly from Nashville and partly from Alabama. Joy Williams and John Paul White are the voices behind the name, which isn't funny. Their music is actually somewhat serious and deeply entrenched in story telling with love and the emotions that come with it being the subject.

There is passion and true grit in their sound... thus the name The Civil Wars. Enjoy.
